These figures provide nominal values of motor vehicles for Senior Executive Service Officers and are based on the value of a vehicle as determined by the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal, together with information from the Department of Finance.
Senior Executive Service (SES)
Vehicle arrangements for SES members occupying positions within the Special Division of the Public Service are provided by the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal. Further information on these arrangements may be found at the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal website.
All other SES members are eligible to participate in the Senior Officers Vehicle Scheme (SOVS). Under the scheme operational government vehicles have private plates fitted to them and are available for limited private use by the SES member outside of normal working hours. SES members pay a fortnightly contribution, from their net salary, for this usage as follows:

It should be noted that:
the SOVS contribution rate is subject to review annually
the contract value stated below is a nominal value only
participation in SOVS is optional
the nominal value cannot be converted to cash and as such there will be no addition to an officer's salary should the officer choose not to participate in the SOVS or access a less expensive vehicle
For the purposes of determining the nominal value of an SOVS vehicle to an SES member it is assumed that the vehicle is used 50% for business use and 50% for private use. The method used to calculate the value of a vehicle is the value determined by the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal, less business usage, and less SOVS contribution.
