PID officer's obligations

Persons designated as PID officers have a number of obligations under the PID Act.

These include:

  • receiving a public interest disclosure
  • considering whether an investigation is needed
  • carrying out, or instigating, any investigation
  • maintaining confidentiality of the identity of the discloser and persons subject to the disclosure, in accordance with the requirements of the Act
  • taking action following an investigation and reporting action taken to discloser
  • creating and maintaining proper records on disclosure
  • keeping a PID register documenting statistics of disclosures made
  • acting in accordance with the rules of natural justice or procedural fairness
  • complying with the Code of Conduct and Integrity
