Guidelines for the review of legislation

The Guidelines for the review of legislation outline the stages likely to be covered by most legislative reviews.

The publication was developed following consultation with several agencies that have recently undertaken a legislative review or that are generally involved in the legislative process, including: Parliamentary Counsel’s Office, the Law Reform Commission, the Department of Commerce, WorkCover WA and the Regulatory Gatekeeping Unit among others.

Feedback from the project leader at an agency that trialled an early draft was very positive with her indicating that several useful suggestions in the guidelines would result in a more thorough legislative review being undertaken by her agency.
