Review of the Commissioner for Children and Young People Act 2006

The review of the Commissioner for Children and Young People Act 2006 (the Act), as required by section 64 of the Act, was completed on 31 May 2013 when the report was provided to the Attorney General.

The review was conducted by the Public Sector Commission, and looked not only at the operation and effectiveness of the Act, but also considered:

  • what amendments are necessary to enable the Commissioner for Children and Young People to operate as a ’one stop shop’ for any complaint concerning child abuse regardless of the public sector agency that the matter relates to; and
  • how to implement recommendation 22 of the Review of the Working With Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 report.

The Attorney General tabled the final report of the review of the Commissioner for Children and Young People Act 2006 in Parliament on Wednesday 20 August 2014. The Attorney General has also announced that there will be a 3-month public comment period on the review. Submissions can be made to minister.mischin@dpc.wa.gov.au
